Over 400 families receive support at ‘Back to School’ event

The Abbotsford School District, in partnership with City Dream Centre’s Adopt-a-School Program, Relate Church, Archway Community Services, The Salvation Army Centre of Hope, and the City of Abbotsford, held a ‘Back to School Event’ on Saturday, August 29th.

The community event supported local families experiencing temporary financial hardship to prepare their children and youth for the new school year. Getting a growing family ready for back to school is no small task or expense at the best of times, and the hardships associated with COVID-19 add another layer of challenge.

Over 400 families received new backpacks that included school supplies, personal hygiene products, two hampers with nonperishable food items, a produce hamper, and gift cards.

We would like to thank every business and community partner that volunteered their time and resources to make this event a success.  Beyond the partners list above we would also like to thank the Abbotsford Community Foundation, Tim Horton’s Whatcom Road, Tim Horton’s Sumas Way, VIP HAIRCUTS, Food Banks BC, Fraser Valley Auto Pro, Blossom Dental and The Real Canadian Superstore, and the numerous community churches and volunteers who made the day a success.
